Took it to the BMW dealer and them being useless they couldnt figure out what was wrong and wanted me to pay them loads of money etc.. was wondering if there is another form of resetting the key to the ecu at a dealership..

Reply to bmwforeman's Post: It is not a new key but the batterys do work in it. IF you remove the batterys from the reomte key without remotly unlockng the car first you cannot reinitialise the key by the means discussed in the manual. So i need to know how the refomat the key to work remotly with the alarm.

I am unaware of this unlocking before changing the battery, i do know that you only have a certain amount of time with the battery out before the initialization is lost.I have had issues trying to initialize these type of key before and one thing that did work was cycling the key in the drivers door before trying to initialize maybe this will help- let me know-

Reply to bmwforeman's Post: Hi there again, i have been driving the car for a week and have just tried cycling the key in the drivers door along with all methods of re-initialsing the key that i have heard of. I am tempted to go and order a new key but due to not knowing the problem i dont want to buy a new key if there is a chance that the new one might not work either especially if its going to cost 80 quid just for the key.

Reply to bmwforeman's Post: Hi yes the key was working previously all be it in a haphazard fashion but this was due to the detioration of the keys buttons which a previsou owner had hacked to pieces. It says in the e36 3 series owners manual on page 30 "If the car was no unlocked with the remote control, the transmitter cannot be in-initalized and this function will be blocked" This is what i feel has happened but i do not know how to rectify it and neither does the BMW dealership near me or i was not explaining write.
